He said this enhanced connectivity between the northern and southern banks of the Brahmaputra, is an element of good governance. He said this pace of development will transform the North-East.

The bridge is the longest rail cum road bridge on the Indian Railways and second longest in Asia. It was declared as National Project because of immense economic and strategic significance for the nation. It will provide link to upper Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and other remote parts of North East India. It shall serve a population of almost 5 million presently dependent on inadequate, slow, and unsafe ferry services especially during floods. A cargo journey will now be less than 100 km from Dibrugarh which previously took over a 600 km detour to reach its destination.

The Bridge has a unique distinction consisting of 39 main spans of 125 m and two end span of 33.4m. The bridge is fully welded superstructure of steel & concrete composite Warren type truss, supporting 2 rail Broad gauge tracks at the lower deck along with 3 lane road on the upper deck.

Since 1977, RITES has been associated with NF Railway on the Bogibeel bridge project. RITES has provided consultancy services at various stages of the project right from the stage of pre-feasibility study. RITES has carried out river surveys, Geotechnical investigations for site selection, detailed engineering studies, detailed design of bridge, river training and protection works involving hydraulic model studies at pre construction stage.
